Hey! It's time for a big update. This time the entire shell gets a coat of primer.
Even if it's just primer, the shell is all one color for the first time in six years.

Not too much to report right now. I plan to prime the rest of the shell with PPG DP epoxy primer in September. To get the car ready, I'm taking care of any remaining body work and preping the metal for the next big step in the project. Believe it or not, most of the shell is still in bare metal. It is still in much the same condition as when it left the stripper more than five years ago, a testement to the dry climate here in Colorado. I'm also taking time to apply some preventative POR-15 to various spots on the inside and underside of the car, just to make sure rust doesn't come back. Look for a project update sometime in September.
There's some related news to share. Another BMW has joined the fold, a 1998 318ti. I've been looking to get one of these for quite some time, and back in April it moved in to it's new home. After a few months of ownership, it's proved to be a fun, practical, and economical car.

I know, I know... It's been more than six months since I've updated the site. Unfortunately, I wasn't been able to do much work over the Winter. But now, with the weather turning warmer and some other responsibilies out of the way, I'm ready to get back to work on the tii.
One more thing, I'm trying out a new lightbox script. Click on the images in this post for a larger version.
The next victim in Martin's "ground down" restoration. Hmm... It doesn't look too rusty.

We moved over the summer and I haven't had time to touch my '02 since May. But before the end of the year, I wanted to put up a few pictures of what I've been up to since then.

This project has actually been complete for about a month, but I'm just getting around to posting this now. As of this posting, I am about half-way through with the other rocker panel.
At one point I actually thought this rocker panel was still good. Boy was I wrong.

I created this Web site to document the restoration of my 1973 BMW 2002tii, with the goal of sharing information about the more interesting and challenging aspects of the project. The dual purposes of this site are to add to the already considerable body of '02 information on the Internet, and to inspire at least one other person to restore a 2002.

So what is a tii anyway?
Tii stands for Touring International (with fuel) Injection. For those unfamiliar with the BMW 2002tii, here is a brief overview. The tii is a fuel injected version of the BMW 2002, built in somewhat limited numbers from 1971 to 1974. It produces about 30 more horsepower than a carburated 2002, features stronger suspension components, and has better front brakes. Other than the rear badge and a clock in the dashboard, there are no outward visual clues that distinguish a tii from a standard 2002. Most of the obvious differences are under the hood. Due to it's relative scarcity and higher standard performance, the tii is generally more desired and valuable.
